Jon Draud became Kentucky’s Commissioner of Education December 3, 2007. Prior to becoming Commissioner of Education, Draud served in the Kentucky House of Representatives, representing Kentucky’s 63rd District, and held the position of vice chair of the House Education Committee from 1999 to 2007. He also served as director of school/university partnerships and as an associate professor at Northern Kentucky University, superintendent of the Ludlow Independent school district, assistant superintendent of Lockland (Ohio) Public Schools, member of the Kenton County Board of Education, and as a school principal and teacher. He holds bachelor’s degrees in physical education and history and a master’s degree in school administration from Eastern Kentucky University, a master’s degree in political science from Xavier University in Cincinnati, and a doctorate in school curriculum and administration with a minor in public policy from the University of Cincinnati. Among his many honors, Draud is a 2007 recipient of the Paul Mason Legislative Advocate for Children Award, presented by the Kentucky Parent Teacher Association. He also served on the Southern Regional Education Board’s board of directors in 2005 and has served on many state government task forces. Draud serves as a nonvoting, exofficio member of the Council.
