Stanley Ikenberry, Regent Professor and President Emeritus at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign will speak about the Higher Education Solutions Initiative, a national, multi-year public awareness campaign designed to foster a renewed public dialogue on the benefits of postsecondary education.

This session will inform and engage the elected and appointed leadership of the Commonwealth regarding activities and initiatives associated with the Council’s 2005-2010 public agenda and its 2006-2008 budget request to the Governor and the 2006 General Assembly.

Eastern Kentucky University professor Dr. Charles A. Sweet, Jr, will be presented with the 2005 Kentucky Advocates Acorn Award. The award will be presented by Marlene Moore, a student at Eastern Kentucky University.

- Joint Luncheon of the Governor’s Conference on Postsecondary Education Trusteeship and the Kentucky Adult Education Conference

At the close of the Governor’s Conference on Postsecondary Education Trusteeship and the opening of the Kentucky Adult Education Conference, Governor Ernie Fletcher will address both communities in a joint luncheon to showcase the important relationship between two of Kentucky’s educational systems. A college student who is a Kentucky GED graduate will introduce the Governor. After the Governor’s remarks, the Council on Postsecondary Education and Governor Fletcher will honor the Class of 2020 from Semple Elementary School of Louisville in recognition of the beneficiaries of postsecondary and adult education reform. Kentucky Adult Education will honor four businesses as Learning for Life Champions for their support of adult education. Learning for Life Champion recipients include Amazon.com, Team Taylor County, the Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, Owensboro Medical Health System, Graviss McDonald’s Restaurants, and Murray-Calloway County Hospital.
