Council on Postsecondary Education
Registration still open for college planning conference
The Council on Postsecondary Education is still accepting registrations through June 21 for the 26th Annual Academically Proficient High School Junior and Senior Diversity Conference. The conference will be held on the campus of Eastern Kentucky University June 28-29.
The conference, developed for minority teens, will acquaint students and their families with a wide range of college planning topics including financial aid and scholarships, selecting a college and career, and developing skills for successful transition to college.
“Regardless of ethnic, racial, or financial background, the conference offers a roadmap to all students transitioning from high school to college. We are especially proud to have the opportunity to both inspire and support our first-generation college students throughout the state,” said Dr. Rana Johnson, chief diversity officer.
Featured speakers include DeVone Holt, host and producer of the Simmons Saturday Morning Solutions radio show.
A college fair with campus representatives from across the state will follow the sessions.
To participate, students must be classified as juniors or seniors during the 2013-2014 school year. There is no cost to participate; however, students, parents, and guardians that wish to stay overnight on campus will be charged $15 per person.
