Council on Postsecondary Education to co-host national forum on Common Core Standards implementation
The Council on Postsecondary Education today announced plans to co-host a national forum on the Common Core Standards implementation next February in Louisville.
The College Readiness Partnership (CRP) will serve as co-host. CRP is a collaborative of the American Association of State Colleges and Universities, the Chief Council of State School Officers and the State Higher Education Executive Officers. The collaborative promotes broad implementation of the Common Core Standards.
The forum, "Architecture for Implementing the Common Core Standards: Strategies, Partnerships & Progress,” will draw higher education leaders and faculty who have been instrumental in P-20 collaboration around the common core standards. The forum will be held at the Marriott Louisville Downtown Hotel, February 27-29.
In February 2010, Kentucky became the first state in the nation to adopt the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in English language arts and mathematics. A state-level steering team, led by the Council, the Kentucky Department of Education, and the Education Professional Standards Board, formed to develop a Unified Strategy for College and Career Readiness to guide the state’s ongoing CCSS implementation efforts.
The first day of the forum will include participants from Kentucky. The remainder of the forum will be open to cross-sector teams from other CRP states (Maine, Massachusetts, Missouri, Oregon, Tennessee and Wisconsin) and additional states deeply engaged in statewide Common Core implementation.
Kentucky will share early successes, challenges and next steps around implementing college and career readiness initiatives, focusing on its strong collaboration between secondary and postsecondary education.
