P-16 Councils
P-16 councils are composed of education, business, and community leaders working together to increase the success of all students, from pre-school through college and beyond. P-16 councils lead comprehensive, coordinated efforts to close achievement gaps and to raise the level of educational attainment and economic development in Kentucky.
- Statewide P-16 Council
The Statewide P-16 council, created in 1999, advises the Kentucky Board of Education and the Council on Postsecondary Education on the preparation of teachers, the alignment of competency standards, and the elimination of barriers impeding successful transitions from pre-school through college. Meetings are held quarterly.
- Local P-16 Councils
Local councils assess a specific area’s educational needs and help implement P-16 initiatives at the local level. Kentucky has 21 local P-16 councils that hold network meetings and communicate via a P-16 listserv.
